Why I volunteer.
Our mission comes to life through the dedication of our volunteers. See their stories below.

A message from our founder
The Beechmont Community Orchard is such a beautiful place for people to come, share, and source great produce, herbs and nuts. We’ve worked hard to build a self-sustaining ecosystem in a space that once housed a gas station and a parking lot full of tractors and other like equipment. We literally have built a paradise where they previously put up a parking lot!
So, let’s keep the momentum going!
Let’s grow our own food and grow a sense of community in our neighborhood. We’ll meet our neighbors’ needs around a common interest – growing, cooking, and eating. We’ll grow together, cook together, and eat together.
Let’s build community resiliency and self-sufficiency and acquire new skills. We’ll trade seeds, plant starts, herbs, and medicinals and share growing techniques, pest avoidance tactics, soil building, and composting practices. We’ll share food preparation and food preservation skills.
Let’s make unkempt places food-producing spaces of beauty, liberate land through reclaiming urban and rural spaces for food production for communities, and create the conditions for acquiring and using public lands for food and plant production. We’ll grow food and decorative plants, flowers, native plants, ornamentals, shrubs, and fruit and shade trees in ways that invite abundance and healing for both the human and more than human world.
And thank you from the bottom of our hearts for chipping in!
